Heart Gear Wedding Cake
This is the heart gear cake for the top of a wedding cake! I printed the heart gear and it was entirely motorized and powered inside the cake. The entire top of the cake was hollow, we printed the hollow 6" round shell too. An arduino, a battery, a stepper motor, and the motor controller were all placed into the hollow top of the cake and glued into place.
The heart is programmed to rotate every few moments. The heart gear was printed on a 3d printer I had recently finished putting together. It took four prototypes to get one that worked. I had printed several variations of the heart gear, but I finally went with the reliable screw together design instead of the screwless version.

Michelle decorated the cake as soon as I finished the top. She did a great job, and it was worth all the effort we put into it! Here’s a few video clips of the heart rotating, its really great to watch in person. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
